S&P Global: Russia’s Services PMI falls to 49.9 in August

MOSCOW, Sep 5 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Services Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 49.9 in August from 54.7 in July, decreasing below the 50-point no-change threshold and signaling a slight contraction, research agency S&P Global said in a statement on Monday.

The business activity remained almost unchanged during August. The output showed stagnation in spite of an increase in new orders, but the rate of growth of new business was the second-fastest since August 2020. Still, strong demand was focused on the domestic market, while export orders dived sharply, S&P Global said.

Pressure on capacity fell, and companies reduced their work backlogs, and companies cut their staff numbers in response to that an in order to cut costs. Operating expenses rise, and input costs grew at the fastest rate for the past three months, and output charges were also raised, the agency said.

The S&P Global Russia Composite PMI Output Index shrank to 50.4 in August from 52.2 in July signaling a slight increase in private sector business activity. The manufacturing production grew, but stagnation of output of service providers slowed down the overall expansion. National demand remains strong, and new orders grow further, but export orders shrink once again and at a sharper pace, S&P said.

МОСКВА, 5 сен /ПРАЙМ/. Индекс деловой активности (PMI) в сфере услуг РФ в августе снизился до 49,9 пункта с июльских 54,7 пункта, говорится в сообщении S&P Global.

"Индекс деловой активности в сфере услуг с коррекций на сезонные изменения S&P Global Russia составил 49,9 пункта в августе, что ниже, чем 54,7 пункта в июле, и значительно ниже среднего значения. Последние данные свидетельствуют о практически неизменном уровне производства в российском секторе услуг, тем самым положив конец двухмесячному росту", - говорится в сообщении.

Уточняется, что в тех случаях, когда поставщики услуг сообщали о спаде в объемах деятельности, это было связано со снижением покупательной способности некоторых клиентов и влиянием международных санкций.

Значение индекса выше 50 пунктов указывает на рост экономической активности, ниже - на ее спад.
